The 5th annual Granby DARE/ Lady Warriors Cheer Camp began Wednesday at the Granby JR/Sr HS. The three day camp begins at 9 AM and ends at Noon. The participants are invited to perform at half-time of a Warriors football game. (The Warriors are a semi-pro football team based in Western Mass)

A house on West Street was broken into sometime within the last three days. Entry was gained by breaking glass in a rear door. The house was ransacked . Stolen were two loaded firearms and an envelope of cash.

As expected we broke an all-time two week attendence record with 176 registered players in week 2 of the 15th annual basketball camp. The players come from all of the surrounding Town’s and have a great time.Today was ” watermelon Wednesday” complete with watermelons donated by Sapowsky Farms, as they do every year. Tomorrow is the annual camp “talent” show as well as a demonstration by the Department’s narcotic detection dog, Ralph.

Three persons were transported to Baystate Hospital after a MV accident at 4:39 PM on Monday. A vehicle travelling eastbound operated by CATHERINE TYNG, 62 of New Salem struck a vehicle operated by HOLLY KOCHANOWSKI, 49, of Belchertown. Kochanowski was cited for making an improper turn.

The 15th Annual DARE Basketball Camp opened Monday with 115 players in attendance, almost surpassing last years 120 Week 1 record. Coach Mike Gill (Southwick Girls Varisty) is the Camp director, in his 15th year as coach and 11th as Director. Ptl. James White, the Department’s newest School Resource Officer, is also in attendance daily, along with the staff of current and former High School and College players. This week Matt Barry, home on leave from the Army before he is deployed to Iraq, is volunteering his time as Assistant Direector. There are still openings for next weeks camp ( grades 3-6)

On Sunday a homeowner reported items left on the lawn of a residence on North street. Recovered were an owl and the lawn ornaments pictured above. If you own them or know who does please contact the Granby Police Department at 467-9222.

This year at Charter Day, the annual Police/Fire Softball game raised funds for the Counil on Aging Food Pantry and Fuel Assistance programs. At the annual SALT Council Police/Senior Cookout, Sgt. Mark smith, representing the Police Officers, and Mike Pandora, representing the Fire Department members, presented a check to Ann Guenette, COA Director. Over $2300 was raised by the two Departments.
