A Granby resident today received a package in the mail that had been tampered with adn which contained suspisious substance. See Press Release issued by the Department.

A 63 year old Granby woman was extracted from a trail in Dufresne Park after breaking her ankle in a fall. The woman had been hiking with another woman and their dogs when she fell and apparently broke her ankle. Her husband was contacted via cell phone and he notified the Police Department. Officer White from the Police Department located the woman on a trail aproxxitely 1/2 mile up the hill into the woods. S. Hadley ambulance personnel and Granby fire fighters evacuated her using the Fire Department Kubota. She was transported to Cooley Dickensen Hospital.

The Hampshire/Franklin County TRIAD will host a FREE informational breakfast seminar on SCAMS, on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 8:30 AM at the Blue Bonnet Banquet Room, King Street Northampton. All Senior Citizens are invited to attend!
The seminar will feature speakers from the Federal Trade Commission, Sovereign Bank, and the Northampton Police Department. Reservations can be made by printing out a form and mailing it to Chris Geffin, One Gleason Plaza, Northampton MA 01060 or by fax to 1-413-584-3635. Registration deadline is November 9, 2009. The seminar is co-sponsored by Northwest District Attorney Elizabeth Scheibel, Sheriff Robert Garvey, the Hampshire County Sheriff’s Associaton, The National Sheriffs Association, and WAL -MART of Hadley, Northampton and Ware.

On Saturday Morning at 1:42 AM Officers responded to an accident in the vicinity of New Ludlow Road and East Street. Upon arrival they found that a pick-up truck operated by Luis Antonio, 23 Noble AveWestfield, MA had left the roadway at 154 New Ludlow Road and went through the yard of 156 New Ludlow Road and 138 East Street. The vehicle came to rest at the intersection of Truby St and East St. Officer White and Brown responded to the scene and arrested Mr. Antonio on charges of Operating under the influence of alcohol and crossing marked lanes, He was released on bail and will appear at Eastern Hampshire District Court on 10/13/2009 for arraignment. The properties at 138 East Street and 154 and 156 New Ludlow Road received damage to fencing and landscaping.

At approximately 02:42 officers were dispatched to the area of 84 Pleasant St.
for a report of a motor vehicle off the road. Upon arrival officers discovered the front
valance to a vehicle with a plate attached. Officers then found a party, later
identified as Ms. Kyra Zehelski (26) of Warwick, Ma, walking down Pleasant St..
She told officers that she had just driven her vehicle off the road and it is in the woods. The vehicle was discovered approximately 200 feet in the woods, in thick brush. Ms. Zehelski was evaluated by Granby Ambulance Personnel and refused medical treatment.

A Breezy Lane homeowner found this 2 foot artillery shell in the attic of his home on Thursday Monring, causing the neighboring houses to be briefly evacuated. Police and Fire officials responded as did the Mass State Police Bomb Squad. They determined that the shell was not live. Articles like this should be considered live and left untouched until a Bomb Squad tecnician can determine if it poses any danger.

On Friday October 2, 2009 at approximately Midnight.officers were dispatched to the area of 215 West St. for a reported motor vehicle crash. Officers found the vehicle on its side. Officers found the operator to be Mark R. Dufault, age 20, of 12 Woodside Terrace, Granby.He told officers he swerved to avoid an animal in the road and lost control of the vehicle. Dufault and his passenger, Justin Dufault, age 17, were transported to Holyoke Hospital, by Granby Ambulance Personnel, for treatment of minor injuries.
