Chimney Fire damages residence

A chimney fire caused by this wood stove damaged a Truby Street residence Tuesday afternoon at 3:47pm. Granby fire department units repsonded to the scene and Fire units from South  Hadley District 2 and Ludlow responded to Town for coverage . The fire was reported extinguished and units cleared by 4:45pm.

Left Turn signals to be installed at 5 Corners

Mass Highway has installed left turn lights  on Rte 202 at the Five  Corners intersection.  This should greatly ease traffic flow.  Ptl. Mike Ulmer facillitated this installation through his full-time employment with Mass Highway. Please be patient as drivers get familiar with the light pattern.

Parking Ban in effect 6P Saturday until further notice

Due to the Winter Storm Warning in effect, there will be a snow removal parking ban in effect from 6pm Saturday December 19 until further notice. NO ON STREET PARKING IS ALLOWED. If you must go out in the storm please drive slowly and safely.

Fire Department delivering Calenders

This weekend members of the Granby Fire Department will be visiting every house in Town and delivering 2010 Calenders. The calenders are FREE , however there is a donation card included if you wish to contribute to this worthy organization.  The members,  most of whom are volunteer, will be in uniform.  The Police Department wishes them well on this endeavor.

Off. Dufault announces retirement

Senior part-time officer Robert Dufault has decided to ” retire” effective January 1. Bob has reached the maximum age to be a police officer ( 65) and decided not to stay on as a civilian dispatcher. Bob is well know in the area as a driving school instructor at Falls Driving School, where he has been employed since 1968!  He plans to continue teaching at the driving school, and will remain as the Animal Control officer for the Town of South Hadley.  Bob and his wife reside in South Hadley.

Slippery roads cause accidents

 Yesterdays snow storm resulted in four MV accidents and over a dozen vehicles off the road.

Daytime melting and cold nightime temperatures willl no doubt result in icy spots. Please slow down.

Winter Storm Warning Issued - Parking Ban in Effect as of 6 a.m-School Cancelled

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for today. As of 6 AM Wednesday December 9th the  Snow removal parking ban will be in effect until further notice- NO on street parking allowed.

Depending  on which weather forecast you listen to, we are expected to get some  icy mix or heavy snow tomorrow. The forecasts range from sleet and snow turning to rain to all snow resulting in a near 6″ accumulation. Either way roads conditons are expected to be slippery. Please slow down,leave yourself plenty of time and drive carefully.
