Head on Accident on Rte 202

The above van, operated by Aimee Lamoche of Palmer struckthe pictured Ford Pick-Up truck operated by Terence Cote of Ware head on Sunday afternoon. The van was apparently on the worng side of the road when the collision occurred. The jaws of life were used to extricate Lamoche. Both operators were trasnported to the hospital with unknown injuries. Granby Police and Firefighters were assisted at the scene by the Massachusetts State Police,from the Quabbin barracks, and by the MSP Accident Reconstruction Team. The accident is still under investigation.

Storm knocks out power/fells trees

A fast moving but powerful storm blew through at approximately 11:45 pm. Numerous roads were blaocked and power was out in  most of Town. On Forge Pond Rd a tree fell on a house  pinning a woman in her bed. She was transported to the hospital  with unknown injuries.

Road construction On West Street

On Friday, May 21, the Granby Highway Department will be milling  on West Street between Amherst Street and the cemetary. One lane will be closed from approximately 7am to 3pm. Monday the road will be paved, weather permitting.

Armed robbery suspect arrested

At 10:50 PM last night,  CARLA D. HOLSTROM, age 34 of Turners Falls MA,  was arrested on several warransts charging her with armed robbery. She was arrested at the Granby Motel on West State Street without incident. Officers from the Granby Police Department and Easthampton PD served the warrants.  The charges stem from armed robberies in Easthampton and Greenfield Mass.

underage drinking- reminder for parents

High School Graduation time is rapidly approaching. Parents are reminded that Massachusetts State Law prohibits them from furnishing alcohol to minors. The legal definiton of furnishing includes situations where the parents in control of the premises knew or should have known that minors were in possession of alcohol. We havem, and will, charge parents who supply or allow minors to drink alcohol on their property.

Construction Up-Date

The new Public Safety facility is nearing completion. We are still  on targt for a completion date of early June, witht he Departments occupying the facility sometime during that month. The landscaping is well underway and the interior is alsmot finished. We look forward to an open house so the residents may see the new building.

Car strikes utility pole on Re 116

A motor vehicle operated by Harry O Brooks, age 76, of Amherst Ma struck a utility pole on Rte 116 at the     Granby/S. Hadley line. Brooks was injured and transported to the hospital by the S. Hadley ambulance. The operator stated that he had fallen asleep.

Storm knocks out power and downs trees

High winds knocked down trees and casued power outages on Tuesday afternoon. according to National Grid over 800 homes were without power for about an hour. The wind damage included the above truck on Carver Street.

Numerous car breaks overnight

The Department is investigating numerous car breaks which occurred sometime Monday night or early Tuesday morning.  The vehicles were located in the rte 116 area of Town. Over 17 cars were reported broken into, as well as some in South Hadley.  Taken were cell phones, loose change, and other small items. Please remove valuables from your vehicle.
