Police Department Announces D.A.R.E. Camp Dates

The Granby Police Department is now excepting applications for the 2017 DARE Basketball and Soccer Camps. The 2017 DARE Basketball Camp will run Monday July 10th - Friday July 14th (for grades 6-10) and Monday July 17th - Friday July 21st (Grades 3-6) Camp sessions run 9 am to 3 pm for session 1. NOTE:  Session 2 camp hours are reduced, Session 2 will run from 830 am to 1230 pm daily. 6th Graders may attend either session. Those 6th grade players who attend Session 1 can also attend Session 2 on a space available basis.

The 2017 DARE Soccer Camp will be held July 24th - July 28th and is available to student’s grades 3 -10 (grades as of 9/17). The camp will run from 8:30 to 12:30 daily and is available to all area youth.

Applications for the camp are available at the police station, or at the police department’s website  www.granbypd.org , under downloads, on the homepage of the website. Grades are as of September 2017. Camp fee is $50 (Discounts for multiple family members.) No child will be denied enrollment due to financial hardship.

Parking Ban in Effect Beginning Tomorrow Morning at 8am

The Town of Granby would like to announce that there will be a Parking Ban in effect from tomorrow, March 31st at 8am, until Saturday afternoon, April 1st at 4pm. This means that there is no on-street parking allowed.

South Hadley Resident Pleads Sentenced to 8 to 10 years for Rape

Gary Mackechnie, 60, of South Hadley, was sentenced to 8-10 years in state prison with 5 years of probation with numerous conditions after pleading guilty in Hampshire Superior Court, Thursday, March 23 to two counts of rape and abuse of a child and two counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14.

The charges stemmed from incidents that occurred in Granby between August 1990 to August 1992.

Granby Police Detective Barbara Fenn investigated.

Assistant District Attorney Caleb Weiner, who prosecuted the case, said, “The Northwestern District Attorney’s Office  would like to acknowledge the strength, courage and resolve of the victim in this case, and hopes that this sentence brings her some measure of justice and helps her continue to heal.”

The Town of Granby would like to announce that there will be a Parking Ban in effect from tomorrow, March 14th at 7am, until Thursday afternoon, March 16th at 12pm. This means that there is no on-street parking allowed.
