Granby Public Safety Complex Dedication and Open House

On Saturday September , the Town of Granby will hold  an open house at the new Public Safety Complex, 259 East State Street ( Rte 202) Granby. The event will start at 9 AM with a ribbon cutting and memorial dedication. There will also be a brief tribute to the  victims  of the 9/11 terrorism acts. Participants in the ceremony will include the Board of Selectmen, the Public Safety Building Committee, Members of the Police and Fire Departments, invited guests and members of the Granby High School  band.

Following  the ceremony, the Complex will be open for public viewing.  In addition to self-guided tours of the facility, The Hampshire County Sheriffs Department will be offering Iris scanning for children. Smokey the Bear and Sparky the Fire Dog will be on hand. There will be demonstrations by Ralph, the Police Department  narcotic detection dog.

Fire Department and Police Department vehicles will be on static display.

“From the Heart of Granby” baskets will be distributed Girl Scout Troop 40097. Information will be available on DARE, the School Resource Officer program , RAD  and the Citizen Dispute Mediation program, as well as Fire Prevention materials.  Guests will have the opportunity to sign up for the SALT Council’s House Numbering program. Parking will be at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church - shuttle service available. Light refreshments will be available.

The Open House will end at 12 Noon

Jeremy Lashway,33, of 25 New Ludlow Rd Granby will be summonsed to court for operating under the influence of alcohol (2cnd offense) ,failure to stay within marked lanes,  and operating an unregistered and uninsured motor vehicle, after an ATV he was operating on the roadway struck a M/C  head on. The M/C was operated by  Michiel Labonte,46, of Truby Street, Granby,.  was trav westbound on New Ludlow Rd when Lashway, operating eastbound on his ATV, crossed onto the wrong side of the road. Lashway was taken to Baystate Hospital. Labonte was taken to Holyoke Hospital. The accident occurred on 8/20, at 10:41 pm.

On Friday August 20, a New Ludlow Rd resident reported that a subject had broken into his home, threatened him, and had stolen money from him. The suspect was identified and a warrant was obtained. Daniel J.  Powers, 30, of  Cove Island Rd was arrested by the South Hadley Police a t his residence later that day on the warrant. Powers was held on $10,000 cash bail on charges of Armed burglary,  unarmed robbery, and assault and battery.

Officers responding to a report of a possible breaking and entering into cars at Dufresne Park, arrested STANLEE ANDRUKUNIS, 25, of 64 Taylor Street, on two counts of brekaing and entering into a MV and, 2 counts of larceny of a credit card, and 1 count of larceny under $250. Andrukunis will br earraigned in Eastern Hampshire District Court on Friday 8/13.

On 8/3/10 at 10:24 AM Officers responding to a report of a house break arrested two suspects who were fleeing the scene in a MV.  MICHAEL MORIN, of 16 America Street, Chicopee, 26 years of age, and GREGORY DONNELY, 15 Booth Rd, Enfield CT, also age 26 were stopped and arrested by Ptl. James Laflamme after they were observed operating a vehicle matching the description of one which fled the scene from a house break minutes earlier.  Ptl. Laflamme was assisted by lt. Allan Wishart and ptl. James White. The residence on School was occupied at the time of the break by two females. One suspect was found in a bedroom rifling a drawer by one of the occupants. Both were charged with breaking and entering into a dwelling with the intent to commit a felony, placing a person in fear. In adition, Donnely was charged with operating after revocation of license. Both subjects were transported to Eastern Hampshire District Court for arraignment.

The Granby Police Department announced today that officers will be out in full force over the next few weeks in a continued effort to increase seat belt use, in support of the Summer 2010, National Click It or Ticket Mobilization. The increased patrols have been funded by a grant from the Massachusetts Highway Safety Division and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The focus of the increased patrols is to combine extra traffic enforcement, provide public information, and community outreach to reduce motor vehicle-related fatalities, injuries and economic loss. The Granby Police Department wishes everyone a safe summer.

On Thursday morning, at approximately 01:22, the police department received a call reporting a single motor vehicle crash in the area of 290 Amherst St.. When officers arrived they found a motor vehicle on its roof and the two male occupants standing next to the vehicle. A few feet away from the vehicle was the Granby Police Department Speed Trailer, which had been struck by the motor vehicle as well. The occupants of the car were not injured in the crash. The operator of the vehicle, Mr. Juan Hernandez of Amherst was cited for the crash. The crash was investigated by Sgt. Kevin O’Grady and Officer Robert Ash.

Starting Monday July 19, the Highway Department will be working on the Carver/Taylor/Chicopee Street area. There will be detour signs set up at Chicopee at School streets, Taylot and Truby, and West Street at the Ludlow line
