Numerous car breaks overnight

The Department is investigating numerous car breaks which occurred sometime Monday night or early Tuesday morning.  The vehicles were located in the rte 116 area of Town. Over 17 cars were reported broken into, as well as some in South Hadley.  Taken were cell phones, loose change, and other small items. Please remove valuables from your vehicle.

Granby DARE Cheer Camp

Granby DARE will  be holding its annual Cheer Camp on July 28, 29 and 30 from 9am until 12 noon. Fee is $40.  The camp is open to girls  from all surrounding Towns, grades 3 and up ( grade as of 9/10). Applications are available at the Granby Pd or on line at the Department web site. Camp is held at the Granby JR/SR High School.

Structure fire closes Rte 202

At 2:09 AM the Police Department received a 9-11 call of a structure Fire on East State Street. Responding units found an unoccupied building at #423 R, totally involved in flames.  Rte 202 was closed until approximately 4 AM while firefighters batttled the flames. The structure was a total loss. Origin of the fire is unkown and it is under investigation by Granby Police and Fire Officials  as well as the State Fire Marshall.

1 injured in Dirt Bike Accident

At approximately 4pm, the Police Department received a call concerning a dirt bike accident on Turkey Hill, near the Belchertown line. Police and Fire units responded and found that CRAIG AMELISKO, age 20, of Dressel Ave Belchertown, had apparently lost control of his dirt bike and had struck a rock.  He was removed from the scene by Granby Fire and Police Personnel in the Fire Department Kubota, and was transferred to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The Environemntal Police were called to the scene . The incident was investigated by Ptl Gary Poehler and Ptl Kurt Carpenter.

Suspect arrested for attempted murder

Christopher Barber, 37, of Miller Ave Granby was arrested on a warrant for , a violation of a restraining order. He was further charged with assault and batter, attempted murder, and intimidating a witness. The charges stem from a domestic dispute which occurred last week. He was held without bail for arraignment on Monday.

Officers respond to a 4 car accident on East State St.

On Friday, April 02, 2010, at approximately 08:30 am, officers from the Police Department and Granby Ambulance Personnel responded to a four car accident on East State St. Upon arrival officers discovered that three of the vehicles involved had either stopped or were slowing in traffic, in the southbound lane, when a fourth vehicle failed to stop and collided with one of the vehicles causing a chain reaction. Two of the parties involved in the accident were transported to Holyoke Hospital with minor injuries. The accident was investigated by Lieutenant Alan Wishart and Officer Paul Anderson.

Suspect sentenced in rape cases

Robert Griswold of Taylor Street in Granby,  was found guilty in Hampshire County Superior Court by Judge Judd Carhart of several counts of Rape of a child and related charges. He was sentenced today to 20-25 years in State Prison. The victims were all males betwen the ages of 13-15. He was also convicted on charges of improper storage of firearms and dissemination of matter harmful to minors . Det. Barbara Fenn was the lead investigator on the case.

Bullying Seminar at GHS

On Tuesday April 6, at 6:30pm at the Granby JR/SR High School , there will be a seminar on Bullying at the Granby  H.S.  Presenters will include officals from the School, School Resource Officer James White, and Cindy Boyle from the Northwest District Attorney’s Office.

Bicyclist struck by MV

On Sunday March 22, at 11:54  AM, a 13 year old female  bicyclist was struck  while attempting to cross Rte 202 in the vicinity of Kendall Street. A truck , operated by  Richard Varney of North Brookfield MA, was travelling west on East State Street ( Rte 202) . The girl was operating her bicycle in the same direction andcrossed in front of the truck to turn down Kendall Street. She was transported to Holyoke Hospital with minor injuries. The accidnt was investigated by Ptl. Bob Ash and Ptl. Jason Richard

Suspect arrested for indimidation of a witness

Robert Grisowld, 54 , of Taylor Street in Granby, was arrested Sunday night on  a warrant charging him with intimidation of a witness. The charge stems from an alleged threat he made against  a witness in a  trial which was due to start today ( Monday) in Hampshire Superior Court. Griswold was held without bail
