Amherst St. Road Work to Begin Tomorrow Morning at 06:30 A.M.

The Granby Highway Department has notified the police department that the paving schedule has been updated with Palmer Paving and tomorrow, June 23, 2011 road construction will begin on Amherst St. from the West St. intersection, north to Amherst Rd. (Rte. 116). The construction will consist of milling and resurfacing the roadway. The road will remain open during this time but will be down to one lane of travel and motorists can expect delays. Motorists are encouraged to seek alternate routes of travel during this project. The project is expected to take at least one week to complete.

Granby Police Respond to an Overturned Boat on Amherst St.

On June 5, 2011, at approximately 2:11 p.m., Granby Police responded to the intersection of Amherst St. and West St. for a two vehicle accident and one of the vehicles was towing a boat and it was overturned in the middle of the roadway. The two vehicles involved were a 2003 Subaru, and a 2004 Ford F150, towing a pontoon boat. The operator of the Subaru, a 16 year old female, received a criminal citation for unlicensed operation and failure to stop at a stop sign.

The Granby Police Department would like to thank, Vested Interest in K-9’s for the bullet proof vest they presented to our K-9, Ralph. The presentation ceremony was held on May 20th. Above is a picture of Ralph, and his handler Officer Kurt Carpenter, at the presentation ceremony.

Ralph (Granby Police K-9) to be Presented with Bullet Proof Vest

There will be a presentation ceremony at the Granby Police Department on May 20th at 1:00PM.  Vested Interest in K-9’s will be presenting Ralph, the department’s K-9, with a bullet proof vest.  There will be other K-9’s from different departments presented with vests as well.  The Press/Media is welcome and encouraged to attend.

Granby Police Department Announces Involvement in the Spring Click it or Ticket Campaign

The Granby Police Department announced today that officers will be out in full force over the next few weeks in a continued effort to increase seat belt use, in support of the Spring 2011, Click It or Ticket Mobilization. The increased patrols have been funded by a grant from the Massachusetts Highway Safety Division and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The focus of the increased patrols is to combine extra traffic enforcement, provide public information, and community outreach to reduce motor vehicle-related fatalities, injuries and economic loss. The Granby Police Department wishes everyone a safe and happy holiday weekend and reminds everyone to celebrate the responsibly.

Granby Police, S.A.L.T., DEA , District Attorney Dave Sullivan’s Office and the Hampshire County Sheriff’s Department Collaborate for a Sucessful Drug Take Back Program

On April 30, 2011 the Granby Police, S.A.L.T., DEA , District Attorney Dave Sullivan’s Office and the Hampshire County Sheriff’s Department collaborated in the Drug Take Back Program. During the four hour window, 10:00am to 2:00pm, there were fifty cars that provided over 126 pounds of unwanted prescription medication. As the boxes were filled they were sealed and numbered with Granby written on them. At 2:00pm Officer Robert Ash and Officer Gary Poehler transported these unwanted medications to Northampton where they met up and transferred the medications to members of the Hampshire County Sheriff’s Department and they took these prescriptions to be destroyed.

Granby Athletics Postpones Charity Car Wash until Sunday May 1st, Due to Weather Forcast

If you want your car to be sparkly clean and support Granby Athletics please join us on Sunday, May 1st for a car wash. Students and members of the athletic teams will be washing cars, and accepting donations of any amount. The Car Wash will take place at 393 East State Street in Granby at the East Meadow School. The Car Wash will start at 10am and end at 2pm. The Granby Fire and Police Departments will be present with equipment on display. Also if you can’t make it students are accepting per car pledges.
